Hello Fellow Growers,
Season 2012 is quickly approaching as gardeners and farmers plan out this season’s crop varieties. Here at Groundswell Seed Farm we are running germination tests, packing envelopes, shipping seeds, and working on our field plans as well!
As heirloom vegetable seed growers and sellers, we are excited about preserving our planet’s biodiversity by saving heirloom seeds and offering them for sale! To help us curb the extinction of the agricultural heritage belonging to us all, we grow heirloom and open-pollinated varieties of seed. These seeds are currently being saved by a network of dedicated grows like ourselves but are not always widely offered as certified organic. Central to our core values is to offer only certified organic heirloom and open pollinated seeds that we grow and preserve by our own hands on our family farm the way people have done traditionally for generations before industrial agriculture. Organic management practices allow us to produce quality crops without negative impacts to our local natural resources. Through crop rotation, cover cropping, green manures, composting, and fallowing land each year we reduce the need for expensive inputs of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Every year in the field we have seen consecutive increases in our soil’s fertility and incredible results in crop growth. So with a focus on tradition and good farming practices we can build up and preserve our soils, our communities, and our diversity!
Happy Growing!
